Canadian TV Ratings [Sports]: October 23-25, 2015

Sportsnet must be laughing to the bank considering that four million Canadians watched a rain delay (logo via Wikimedia)

Good God, Sportsnet. If you haven’t heard by now, (which you should’ve because I posted a link to the press release yesterday), Friday’s Jays game pulled in 5,120,000 viewers. To give you an understanding of how huge that is NCIS, Canada’s number one show for the week of October 12, did under half of that with just over 2.5 million viewers. In other words, Friday’s Jays game more than doubled the audience of Canada’s top show.

Unfortunately, it also marked the end of the line for the Jays, but it has been a heck of a ride for Sportsnet. It has been such of a ride that Sportsnet’s top 10 broadcasts are all ALDS or ALCS Jays games or related shows. Actually one of those broadcasts isn’t technically a game or show — it’s just a rain delay.

Yup, the epic rain delay during Friday’s Jays match drew over four million viewers. That’s again well over the 2.5 million that Canada’s current top show drew. Somewhere network TV execs must be weeping. Maybe next season City’s entire prime-time schedule will just be footage of rain.

While I try to wrap my head around that, check out my charts below and visit Yahoo Sports Canada at the source link for more on the weekend’s top sports.

***Yahoo Sports has these games as airing on CTV, but according to a Bell Media press release, one game aired on CTV Two Atlantic in addition to several CTV affiliates, while another aired on TSN1 not on CTV.
