Canadian TV Ratings [Sports]: June 26-28, 2015

The NHL Entry Draft ate into the Jays ratings on Friday (logo via Wikimedia)

After a few weeks of some impressive ratings, the numbers for the Jays are tapering off a bit. The Jays game on June 19 drew over a million viewers on Sportsnet, but only 481,000 tuned in for the game on Friday. That was likely because the game got shifted over to Sportsnet One to make way for the NHL Entry Draft on Sportsnet. A million viewers tuned in for the draft, and it is almost certainly why the Jays ratings took a tumultuous fall.

If the NHL Entry Draft wasn’t on, however, I bet the Jays would’ve seen a modest dip anyway. The Jays game on Saturday drew 752,000 and 767,000 watched Sunday’s game, but the Jays games drew over 800,000 viewers on both Saturday and Sunday the week before.

The Women’s World Cup, on the other hand, continued to surge. Canada’s game against England drew over three million viewers on CTV, and that’s not too shabby when you consider that Canada’s match against Switzerland garnered 2.6 million viewers on Sunday, June 21.

The numbers above are Numeris’ overnight ratings for sports events on English-language Canadian TV. If any of these games or events were also broadcast on an American network available in Canada, the viewers who watched the American broadcast are not included in the numbers above.

*This could be an error as Sportsnet’s schedule lists a Yankees-Astros game airing on June 27 but not on June 28.
