The Tim Hortons Brier took a bite out of HNIC and Hometown Hockey (Iogo via Tim Hortons Brier/Curling Canada)

The Tim Hortons Brier took a bite out of HNIC and Hometown Hockey (Iogo via Tim Hortons Brier/Curling Canada)

Hometown Hockey and the early Hockey Night in Canada games both fell from their counterparts last week, and the Tim Hortons Brier over on TSN is likely the main reason why.

The Brier semifinal went up directly against the early HNIC games and averaged nearly 900,000 viewers. HNIC’s early games featured the Blues vs. the Leafs, the Canadiens vs. the Coyotes and the Jets vs. the Predators and only averaged 1.7 million. That’s down from the average of 2.1 million that last week’s comparable broadcast drew.

Hometown Hockey had the misfortune of being up against the Brier final and it felt the burn. The Brier final averaged 1,250,000, while Hometown Hockey averaged almost half of that with 623,000.
