Canadian TV Ratings [Sports]: January 23-26, 2015

So the NHL All-Star Weekend numbers are in, and they’re not looking so hot.

According to Chris Zelkovich over at Yahoo! Sports, the 1.5 million who tuned in to this year’s All-Star Game on Sunday was nearly 40 per cent lower than the audience for the last All-Star Game way back when in 2012.

The All-Star Skills Competition on Saturday, took the place of Hockey Night in Canada’s early games, and while its ratings were pretty much on par with what the games typically average, it saw a 27 per cent drop when compared to the 2012 All-Star Skills Competition.

Perhaps the most jolting drop was for the All-Star Fantasy Draft, which only saw 503,000 tune in compared to the 1.3 million who watched the All-Star Fantasy Draft back in 2012 when it was on TSN.

So what happened? It appears that Rogers thinks the problem is with how Numeris counts its ratings. According to Zelkovich again, Rogers has been in touch with Numeris as they’re concerned that their ratings aren’t entirely accurate.

The folks at Bell/TSN probably couldn’t be happier with whatever Numeris is doing to arrive at its numbers, however. Genie Bouchard’s quarter-finals match against Maria Sharapova attracted 720,000 to TSN on Monday night. That audience now makes the event the most watched Australian Open quarter-final ever recorded according to Bell Media.
