Canadian TV Ratings: January 12-18, 2015

CBC’s Book of Negroes made Wednesday’s chart for the second week in a row. While it didn’t pull off the crazy stunt of actually gaining more viewers from the previous week as Empire did in the US, The Book of Negroes still garnered respectable numbers. Over 1.6 million tuned into its Jan. 14 episode. That’s down from nearly two million viewers for its premiere the week before, but still not bad for a CBC show.

Actually, the CBC was on quite a roll during the week of Jan. 12. Five of their broadcasts managed to make Numeris’ top 30 list, with two of those broadcasts being Schitt’s Creek on Tuesday. The series premiere of the comedy drew 1,581,000 at 9 p.m., while a second episode right after at 9:30 attracted 1,554,000. Both weren’t high enough to make the list of the top three programs of the night that I have below, but that’s because it was up against some stiff competition — namely Agent Carter and NCIS: New Orleans.

The Book of Negroes and both episodes of Schitt’s Creek did better than CBC’s established shows Murdoch Mysteries and the early games of Hockey Night in Canada, which attracted 1,387,000 and 1,125,000, respectively. Still, the CBC should have plenty of reasons to celebrate, as five shows on the top 30 list isn’t bad, especially considering that they don’t rely on American imports like the other networks.
