CBC’s critically acclaimed period drama STRANGE EMPIRE returns with the four final episodes of the season on Monday, Jan. 12 at 9 p.m. (9:30 NT). Tune in to catch up on the all-new episodes of this gritty western drama, which centers on the women of Janestown — Kat Loving (Cara Gee), Dr. Rebecca Blithely (Melissa Farman) and Isabelle Slotter (Tattiawna Jones) as they struggle for survival and justice in 1869 Alberta-Montana border country.

In the return episode The Cage, the mines are in ruins and Kat and the people of Janestown work furiously through the night to dig out the few survivors. With many still missing, Captain John Slotter’s (Aaron Poole) depravity reaches new depths as he insists they shift their efforts to mining the new seam of coal. Meanwhile, his attempt to hide the catastrophe from his father proves unsuccessful as the two come to blows, their long-simmering hatred finally showing itself in violence. Fearing the loss of his father’s money may cause him to lose his wife, Isabelle, Slotter turns his attention to winning back his father’s favour by a committing a heinous act that disgusts Isabelle and changes their relationship forever.

STRANGE EMPIRE is a Western whose heroes are women. With most of their men gone, and those who remain battling for control, the women struggle to survive, to find their independence, and to build a life in which to thrive and raise families. As the stories of Janestown’s citizens unfold we see the clash between a power-hungry father and son and the deep prejudices among races, but also the start of something akin to community in this Wild West.
