Canadian TV Ratings [Sports]: December 19-21, 2014

Friday’s World Junior Championship pre-tournament game between Canada and Russia did very nicely in the ratings (logo via Wikimedia)

The International Ice Hockey Federation’s World Junior Championship pre-tournament game between Canada and Russia —what a mouthful—did very well for TSN on Friday. It pulled in 480,000 viewers, which was notably better than the 297,000 who tuned into the Raptors game that topped last week Friday.

However, when it came to Canada’s World Juniors match on Sunday, the numbers weren’t particularly great. Canada was up against Sweden and that game only attracted 252,000. While something called the “World Junior A Challenge” drew just 145,000 on Saturday.
Friday’s Canada/Russia game may have only done so well because it appears as if there wasn’t much else on that day. Typically you’d see a Raptors game and two NHL matches on Fridays, but the only thing that managed to chart on Friday was that World Juniors game.
