Canadian TV Ratings: November 17-23, 2014

While most of the week saw much of the same ratings and shows we’re now used to only with negligible gains and losses, Sunday was an exception. It had the star-studded American Music Awards as well as the CFL playoffs.

When you compare the 2,068,000 The American Music Awards attracted to what CTV was able to pull in the week before, it’s a bit of a mixed bag. Its viewership is shy of the 2,295,000 CSI averaged the previous week at 10 p.m., but more than the 1,862,000 Once Upon a Time attracted from 8-10 that night. Regardless of those numbers, I’m sure CTV is happy that The American Music Awards appears to have dented Madam Secretary’s ratings. The Global drama lost 265,000 viewers from last week.

However, Madam Secretary topped Sunday’s CFL playoffs coverage, but not by much. TSN’s CFL playoffs coverage gathered nearly 1,350,000 in front of televisions across the country. That’s just over 70,000 fewer viewers than Madam Secretary. Those numbers aren’t too bad considering that the playoffs were on cable and the CFL is completely homegrown. Still, the CFL playoffs were no match for Canada’s game: hockey. Hockey Night in Canada, which didn’t chart last week, attracted 1,433,000 to the CBC on Saturday night.
