TORONTO (November 3, 2014) – MTV celebrates today’s young people with the premiere of the one-hour special WE DAY 2014, Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 8 p.m. ET on MTV. Airing later in November on CTV, WE DAY 2014 captures highlights from the We Day events in Toronto and Vancouver last month, which brought together more than 40,000 students to celebrate their incentive to create change both locally and globally. Hosted by multi-platinum recording artist Selena Gomez, the jam-packed special features performances by global mega-star Jennifer Lopez, hip-hop royalty Kendrick Lamar, heartthrob Nick Jonas, and Canadian chart-toppers Shawn Mendes, Hedley, Marianas Trench, and Lights, alongside speakers Grammy® Award-winning duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, and Grammy-nominated artist Big Sean. We Day is an internationally renowned, educational, and youth-empowerment movement led by global children’s rights activists and Free The Children co-founders, Craig and Marc Kielburger.
“We Day inspires and celebrates educators and youth taking action both at home and abroad and we are proud to work with Free The Children to play a part in that,” said Tracey Pearce, Senior Vice-President, Specialty and Pay, Bell Media. “With WE DAY 2014 Canadian youth prove their compelling desire for change, serving as inspiration for all viewers.”
“We Day is the vehicle to inspire a year of local and global service and help students find their passion for the causes they care about,” said Craig Kielburger, co-founder of Free The Children. “When you add up these acts of service the impact is far-reaching. Since 2007, students involved have been able to achieve remarkable social change, raising $45 million for more than 1,000 local and global causes, collecting 5.6 million pounds of food for local food banks, and logging 14.6 million hours of volunteer service. We are thrilled to work with supporters like Bell Media who honour and showcase the accomplishments of our future world leaders.”
