Canadian TV Ratings [Sports]: September 12-14, 2014

The Roughriders and Tiger-Cats weren’t any match for the NFL this week (logo via Wikimedia)

While the CFL held up pretty nicely against the NFL last week, the same can’t be said this week. TSN’s Roughriders/Tiger-Cats game went up against various NFL matches over on CTV, its sister conventional network, and lost out.

The NFL “early games,” as they’re apparently called, drew 609,000 on CTV, up just a bit from last week’s 601,000. The Roughriders/Tiger-Cats match, however, only delivered 531,000. That’s down dramatically from the previous Sunday’s Roughriders/Blue Bombers game which attracted 1,107,000 to easily become the most watched sporting event of both the night and the weekend on a whole.

To add salt to the wound, the CFL was also beaten out by the Jays on Friday despite that the night’s Jays game attracted nearly 80,000 fewer viewers than last Friday. Only 614,000 tuned into this Friday’s Alouettes/Eskimos match, down a tad from the previous Friday’s Lions/RedBlacks game, which had 668,000 viewers.

On the bright side, both the Argonauts/Stampeders (871,000) and Blue Bombers/Lions (786,000) games on Saturday outperformed the Stampeders/Eskimos (753,000) match from last Saturday.
