Canadian TV Ratings [Sports]: August 15-17, 2014

The BC Lions are quite a popular bunch (logo via Wikimedia)

After a bit of a slump the CFL is now back on top. Sunday’s Lions/Argonauts game took the title as the weekend’s most watched sporting event with 820,000 tuning in and was followed by Saturday’s Alouettes/Roughriders game, which took 737,000 viewers.

The Jays, on the other hand, tumbled a bit. Last week their top match (which also happened to be the weekend’s most watched sporting event) had a viewership of 753,000 on Sunday the 10th. This week their top match was also on Sunday, but dropped down to 633,000.

Of the 20 sporting events listed for the weekend only two of them aired on Friday (so, no I’m not missing a game for Friday) and with 18 events split between Saturday and Sunday, it was a very busy weekend to say the least. There was the Wyndham Championship on Global, the ATP Western and Southern Open on Sportsnet and a UFC match on Sportsnet 360, as well as both MLS and Premier League soccer and women’s World Cup matches.
