Canadian TV Ratings [Sports]: August 8-10, 2014

It wasn’t a great weekend for sports to say the least. This weekend’s top game was a Tigers/Jays match and with only 753,000 tuning in that was substantially down from last weekend’s top match a Jays/Astro game that had a viewership of 832,000.

The CFL didn’t pull in as impressive numbers last weekend when compared to when the season started. I suppose that should be expected, but the numbers are continuing to head in the wrong direction. This weekend’s top CFL match was a Tiger-Cats/Lions game on Friday. That match had 576,000 viewers compared to last weekend’s top CFL match, a Lions/Stampeders game, with a viewership of 656,000.

Perhaps the biggest shock was the astonishingly low numbers for the Rogers Cup, where star players Roger Federer, Milos Raonic and Eugenie Bouchard hit the courts. The quarterfinals on Friday drew an anemic 91,000 on Sportsnet 360. You could argue that was mainly due to it airing on Sportsnet 360, however the finals aired on the CBC and only drew 178,000.
