Canadian TV Ratings: July 7-13, 2014

This week had the debut of two blockbusters, the second season of The Amazing Race Canada and the newbie Extant. Both pulled in huge numbers: The Amazing Race Canada drew 2,764,000, while 2,340,000 tuned into Extant. The second season of The Amazing Race Canada bested last week’s debut of the second season of Under The Dome, which opened with 2,382,000 viewers, while Extant just came shy of beating it.

While Under The Dome was last week’s top series, Under The Dome couldn’t manage to hold onto its crown this week. It wasn’t even the top show Monday, with MasterChef leapfrogging it and by a good margin as well. MasterChef had over 150,000 more viewers than Under The Dome this week, while last week over 200,000 separated the two series. That means Under The Dome lost 300,000 viewers from last week, that’s not a good sign.

The World Cup Coverage was not only the top program of the week according to Numeris, but it, together with its post show, was enough to knock the weekend editions of the CTV Evening News off the charts on Saturday and Sunday—that’s quite rare. In fact on Sunday, no CTV News programs made the chart due to the World Cup and Big Brother.

Check out the source link below for the full list of this week’s top-30 shows. There you’ll see the numbers for CBC’s Calgary Stampede coverage and CTV’s So You Think You Can Dance all the way at the 30th spot. It might be time to put that show out to pasture.
