Canadian TV Ratings: February 10 – February 16, 2014

The Olympics took the top two spots (and a total of five slots in the top ten) but despite that, it seems that Canadians have gotten tired of the Olympics. That’s pretty odd considering the CBC press releases I read. The top two Olympic broadcasts, the weekend broadcasts of the Olympics during the daytime and the afternoon actually fell from last week. The weekend daytime broadcast lost nearly 300,000 viewers from last week, and the afternoon broadcast lost over 400,000 viewers.

The Big Bang Theory tumbled to third place with 2,087,000 viewers (compared to last week’s 4,136,000). The only logical explanation that I can think of is that the episode was a rerun. Intelligence saw a modest dip from last week (around 67,000 viewers) but its numbers were still enough to make it surge from 14th place to fourth place this week since Criminal MindsNCISCSISHIELDHNIC and NCIS: Los Angeles all exited the top ten. Again, the only explanation for the disappearance of all those shows from the top ten is that I think most of those shows were in reruns or preempted all together due to the Olympics.

It’s also nice to see Canadian shows doing so well. MasterChef Canada took seventh place, and Saving Hope snagged ninth this week. Actually, with the Olympics and the inexplicably ever-popular CTV Evening News, seven of the top ten broadcasts were Canadian made.

For BBM’s full top-30 list click the source link below, and be sure to check it out this week. There’s a few oddities in there. Coronation StreetYoung & The Restless and two American Idol broadcasts cracked the top-30. City, which was doing really well last week, plummeted out of the top 30 with no shows in the top 30. Nada, zero, zilch. Yikes.
